Membership Benefits
Membership in Eastside Village provides many benefits that help us thrive. Please join us!
Social connectedness:
Whether you moved to Portland recently or have lived here for many years, you’ll meet new friends and enjoy a wide variety of events and services that may improve your physical, emotional, and mental health. Our community has been an invaluable lifeline for us during COVID.
Program and Events:
Our members are active in our social, educational, and cultural programs—like learning conversational French, bicycling, hiking, playing mahjongg, preparing for emergencies, addressing climate change, and exploring world cultures. We also create exciting events, including a ceilidh, readings of member authors’ books, garden tours, accessible “easy outings” for members with some physical limitations, potlucks, tours of museums, and fundraisers to benefit others in the Portland area. And we’re always coming up with more! Most programs and events are free for members and volunteers. Some are open to non-members. Please see our calendar for the latest opportunities.
Practical Services:
Need help in your yard? Is your kitchen sink plugged? Can you use a ride to your medical appointment? Our capable volunteers provide these and many other services. All of them have been background-checked, and our drivers are trained to meet our members’ needs. We also provide a list of pre-screened and background-checked
outside vendors
to provide services —from remodeling to medical transportation and home health care—that are beyond our volunteers’ capabilities.
Help when life gets hard:
Members who need neighborly support as they recuperate from illnesses or go through other difficult times find their loads lightened through the Rain or Shine Committee. Meals, friendly visits, and access to medical equipment are just a few of the services from this team.
Volunteering:
We believe in giving back. In neighbors helping neighbors. Volunteering keeps our minds and bodies active, and enriches our lives. Our members (and many non-member volunteers!) help each other and the wider community.
